How Basketball Workouts Can Improve Your Game

Basketball workouts are necessary to improve dodging techniques and help in improving reflexes of the players.Basketball is a grueling game and it requires practice and training. Otherwise, you will not be successful as a basketball player. Your trainer will help you come with training workouts that will get you going right from the beginning. However, before you start training, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. Firstly, you should make it a habit to practice for an hour in the basket ball court, and exercise for about 45 minutes in the weight room. Workout of 8 hours per week is more than enough. In addition, you should warm your body up before workouts by doing stretching and mobility drills. Find a nice team to help you along the way. Lastly, as far as workout in the weight room is concerned, you need to focus on your entire body. Do not focus on one part as you need to develop muscles of both upper and lower portions of your body.

Coming back to some specific basketball workouts, people usually think that doing few bench presses is enough to be adequately trained for basketball. This is far from truth. If you want to go places in the field of basketball, then you need to put in a lot of effort into your basketball training session. One very important component of the basketball training is jumping.  If you practice jumping then you can add four to five inches to the heights you are able to achieve. You can think of the impact it will make if your height is short considering basketball standards. Below are a few easy but important basketball workouts that can really make you a good basketball player.

Basketball Workouts – Running:

As a basketball athlete, you will have to perform well in two aspects of running. First is running with speed and second is to run for long durations. Therefore, in order to enhance your running, you need to participate in both aerobic and anaerobic basketball workouts.

You should do sprinting exercises to enhance your speed and build up the muscles of your leg at the same time. Set the clock and time your sprints or laps and challenge yourself. Your time will start improving day by day. Jog in morning for about 2 miles daily and breathe in some fresh air. This will prevent fatigue from setting in and will release the stress too. In order to mix both anaerobic and aerobic exercise, you should head to a local track and run 2 laps with some rest in between them. Ride on your bicycle for 2 miles a day. Make it a routine to run backwards for a while. This will enhance your flexibility and muscle coordination.

Basketball Workouts - Yoga:

Phil Jackson needs no introduction. He was the first one to offer yoga classes for his Chicago team because he knew that Yoga really helps and hence it was included in the basketball workouts. The problem with the tall basketball players is that they complain a lot about back pain. Pain in the back can be attributed to two reasons. First is tremendous pull from the lower back and second is the stress associated with jumping. Yoga can come in really handy in curing this problem. Stretching Yoga exercises make your back muscles more flexible.

Basketball Workouts - Weightlifting:

This is among basketball workouts but it is important for the basketball players. Basketball is tough sport and you are required to be in a good shape if you want to beat your opponents. Weightlifting not only builds strength but also makes your body less prone to injury, and helps you recover fast. You should indulge in serious weightlifting only during off season. Otherwise, you will be too tired to play games as you would have exhausted yourself during the weightlifting session. If you are a beginner, start by opting for less heavy weights. Wrist should be your prime focus as wrist strength helps in proper dribbling and passing. Another thing that you need to keep in mind is that you should exhale as you lift the weight, and inhale as you lower it down. Weightlifting will help in building endurance, which will also help you run fast, and maintain your speed.Apart from doing all of the above, you should also take care of your diet. Basketball workouts alone will not do any good unless you take proper diet. You should go for complex-carbohydrates and make bananas a part of your life. Bananas can help in preventing cramps as they increase the body’s flexibility.
